Dream Riders of Kentucky is primarily a volunteer-driven agency, with the exception of a part-time Executive Director, who is responsible for promoting the program, registering riders, fundraising, and recruiting volunteers. Experience has taught that, to run the facility effectively, a part-time Barn Manager is necessary to oversee the facility’s maintenance and the horses’ care. During the riding season, contractual riding instructors are hired to facilitate the riding programs.

These individuals have responsibilities for organizing and directing ride sessions for 12-20 riders per week. They assess each rider’s specific needs, develop programming that will enhance their physical/mental capabilities, sense of worth and well-being, liaise with parents and health care providers, assign volunteers, select horses that are suited for each rider, supervise tacking of the horse, ensure the safety of the rider, and evaluate outcomes of the ride when the session is complete.
